August 24 - Endocrinology Appointment
It's sometimes hard to remember that in all of the USS crazy Levi also still has congenital hypothyroidism and that we have to maintain that as well. He does so well taking his meds every morning that it is just second nature now and not something we worry about. His meds have been doing great keeping him stabilized so we haven't been worrying about things lately. His growth and development have been on a steady curve which is what we need to see, so we are very happy with everything. But we still need to go see Dr. C every 6 months so that he can check that things are working correctly and we can update his meds if need be. As he grows his med dose needs may need to change just based on size alone.
We got up and going early in the morning to get to Manchester. Manchester is only an hour away so we go down in the morning before his 9am appointment. The drive down went well with Levi watching The Backyardagans the whole way there. Google Maps suggested that we go a different way then my GPS which ended up being a very back woods way and we didn't pass any Dunkin Donuts so no breakfast. At least Levi had a milk cup in the car.
We got to the hospital and got checked in. Levi asked for his "key" at registration which he gets in Lebanon, we had to explain to him that things are different here, but he gets frustrated (to him one hospital is the same as the next). We set down to wait and Levi and Jay read a story. Then it was our turn to go in. They did height and weight and we headed into the room.
Levi found things to play with in the room to keep himself occupied. :)
Dr. C came in several minutes later and we talked to him about Levi's progress. Everything seemed great. It was time for the visual exam, and Dr. C said everything looked good as well! We needed to repeat labs to get the actual counts of how things were going, but it didn't make sense to stick him in Manchester when he would be getting his normal blood work tomorrow for USS, so we got printed labs and we were on our way.
Dr. C did tell us that there was a new endocrinologist in Dover now (since the one that we "fired" has since retired/moved on) and said he would recommend him if we wanted to switch to Dover. We said for now we were very happy with Dr. C and would stick with him since it was only a few times a year, but would keep that in mind for once Levi was in school.
Since none of us had eaten breakfast we ate at the cafe at the hospital before getting back in the car.
Then we were off to daycare.
Update: Labs came back on August 31st. His numbers are doing well, just barely over the normal range, but nothing to be concerned about at this time. We will keep medication dosage the same and redo labs in 3 months (half way between appointments.)
