February 25 - Hospital Stay Day 1 - Infusion #38

February 25 - Hospital Stay Day 1 - Infusion #38

We got home from the grocery store and started packing and getting ready while also dealing with a million phone calls between us, the doctors, the hospital, bed services, registration, our family, and it seemed like everyone else. Since we are heading up on a Sunday Levi has to go inpatient in order to get a plasma infusion as there is no clinic until Tuesday. We packed up some sandwiches and a home made "lunchable" for Levi and headed out. Levi refused to eat anything crunchy but did eat ham and raspberries on the drive up.
I asked him if he wanted a cookie and he still refused to eat anything crunchy. At this point I was getting concerned that his throat really hurt and something could be causing issues, but as we were on the way to the hospital we would get it all checked out there. He did want the cookie but peeled the cookie off and only ate the inside soft part of the oreo!! He is such a cutie.
We got the hospital and went to registration to get everything all set. We got Levi's room number of 543. Then we headed upstairs. It was very strange to see the hospital so empty! This main hallway is usually bustling with activity and people, and it was so quiet and empty! It was almost creepy!
We got to the elevators to head upstairs and Levi was trying to figure out on the map where we were and where we were heading. He was pointing it out while we waited for the elevator to come down.
We got upstairs and got checked into our room. Levi climbed into the bed and got cuddled in. And started playing with all the buttons. They started running vitals, having nurses and doctors look at Levi and talk to him and us about everything. It was very strange to be admitting a child that looks fine and is acting happy, but we know that his little body is fighting to be healthy and he needs to be around as few germs as possible right now.
We headed into the room next door in order to get his height and weight. In that room there was a treasure box which Levi narrowed in on the second we walked in. He picked a TMNT coloring set and was excited to start coloring as soon as we got back into his room. He was a little upset that there was no purple marker, because how could he color Donatello without purple. I was a little surprised by the three marker choices that were in the bag. It seemed like an odd color combo for a TMNT coloring set as it was red, brown, and green.
After that we put cream on his port and then were able to go play in the playroom for a few while we waited for the IV team to come up and access his port. The playroom is now completely redone and new and Levi was excited to bounce from activity to activity to activity. He wanted to play Hungry Hungry Hippos as as family so we spent some time doing that, as well as playing with all kinds of other toys. He couldn't settle on any one toy, which is understandable, we just were the clean up crew behind him putting things away as he moved on to the next activity within seconds.
After we had played for a few minutes the IV team had come up so we went back to his room. Levi was very upset by this and didn't want to leave the playroom, but after we told him that we could take Hungry Hungry Hippos to our room he settled down a little. I spent a few minutes talking to the IV team about what needles we generally use for Levi's port and what we do to hold it in place and such and then it was time to access. Levi was very anxious about this! Much more then normal. I climbed on the bed with him and held his hand and rubbed his belly while he got accessed. Once it was done he was ok with it except he was very unhappy that he was orange. The cleaner that they use downstairs is clear and doesn't stain his skin. The cleaner upstairs is orange and mostly definitely stains. He was not happy by this and kept asking when we could take off the orange and if it was on there forever.

Once we were accessed we settled in with a movie and a popsicle! One of the special treats of being in the hospital is unlimited Rocket Pops and Levi loves to take full advantage of that. The gray dog/wolf was also new from the hospital! It's nice when they give the kids a special treat.

Levi finally said he was hungry so I grabbed a fruit cup from the snack area for him. He gobbled the whole thing up. Then we ordered dinner for Levi as the cafeteria is not quick at delivering food to the rooms. At this point Jay headed over to get us signed in to David's House as he would be spending the night there. The nurse came in to check on us at one point and told us that Levi's counts were at 18! We had started his infusion at this point and it was a good thing we had!
Jay had brought up our stuff before he headed over to David's House and Levi wanted all of his fella's and Huggie. He looked super comfy on his bed!
It took about 45 minutes for food to come up, but when it did Levi was happy. He had asked for spaghetti and I said sure! He settled in to eat!
I swear he actually got some of it in his mouth!! But this face was the after affects of eating!!
Since we had no idea what had brought on the puking of yesterday and Levi was complaining that he couldn't eat anything crunchy and Levi's class had had 2 confirmed cases of strep A we got them to run a strep culture for us while we were there anyways. Thankfully it came back negative. Which is good in one way, but in another way we still have no idea why the rapid descend in platelet counts and why the 8 hours of puking.

After dinner Levi was getting tired of watching movies and asked to play games so we settled in on his bed with some family games. First we played Hungry Hungry Hippos about 15 times. Levi really likes it!
Then I needed something else so I headed to the playroom and found a dog bone game. I love these games as they use a lot of fine motor skills. I may have to get this one for home too, as I can only play the squirrel game so many times. Levi was so happy when he won by a landslide!
After we were done playing the nurse came in to do final checks before bed, bring in night time meds and we asked her to move his sensor to his toe for over night. She was great with him and even let him listen to his heartbeat after she had. He was really happy to get to use the stethascope, even if I don't think he had a clue what he was listening too.
After that we started to get ready for bed. Levi was very interested in helping me pull out my bed and get it set up and made. And he was a little confused/upset that Daddy was leaving, but when we explained that he would be back early in the morning he seemed ok with it. Then we changed into his PJs and settled in for sleep. This is the cutest video ever of Levi saying good night to all of his fellas!

It didn't take long before Levi was fast alseep! Even with the lights on bright and Jay and I talking. He had had quite the day and his little body is fighting to get better!
Jay and I talked for a few minutes and then he headed out and I settled in for a hopefully quiet night!

First vitals check was at midnight. Levi was unimpressed by the vitals, but I was able to get him back to sleep pretty quickly. A little rubbing, and little stuffie re-positioning and he was back asleep within just a few minutes. Hopefully the rest of the night will go the same.
